Development of Electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring device
Abstract
Heart related diseases such as Heart Disease, Stroke and other Cardiovascular Diseases are the leading killer diseases all over the world. Many devices are developed to detect early sign or symptoms of heart abnormalities. Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a graphic tracing of the electric current generated by the heart muscle during a heartbeat. It is used to detect the heart
wave abnormality. The commercial ECG in the market is very costly, thus it is an advantage
to be able to develop personal ECG monitoring device. Three electrodes which is placed on
the right arm, left arm and the right leg are used to detect the heart wave on the skin instead
of 12 electrode used clinically. The signal is amplified using instrumentation amplifier
AD620. It is chosen for its high Common Mode Rejection Ratio (CMRR) and the gain from
AD620 is 50.40 gain. Operational amplifier OP07 is used for a few circuit design which are
right leg driven, band pass filter and also the level shifter. OP07 is chosen for its low noise.
In this project, the designing of analog amplifier circuit was achieved. Function generator
was used as an input signal as the alternative of the real heart wave. The analog amplifier
circuit manage to amplify the voltage of the function generator. This indicate that when the
real heart wave enters the amplifier circuit, it will also able to be amplified.
