    Abstract
The future is looking towards alternative power sources all of which will need to be regulated in one form or another. To make this possible, a highly efficient low cost product will have to be designed. The accepted design will provide this output with the least amount of total losses. This will be tested experimentally, first by computer simulation, and then in the laboratory. This final year project report presented design, simulate and construct a dc – dc converter from 12Vdc to ± 24Vdc with maximum output current is 3Ampere. This device can also be known as boost or step – up converter where usually are applied in a switch mode power supply. This converter output voltage is remain 24Vdc even the current that are supplied to the converter varied from 0Ampere to maximum that is 3Ampere. This converter using a mosfet as a switching device and ICs PWM controller as to control the circuit with output capable of directly driving the mosfet switches. The mathcad software is used to calculate the value of components in the circuit for example timing resistor Rt. This converter can be used in lab as a power supply or at home to step up the 12Vdc from a battery.
