This research is conducted to study the Malay social institutions in the novel Luka Nering (2014) by Malim Ghozali PK. ‘Social institutions’ is refered as an organization which allows members of the community to be gathered, make use the standard regulations and may have the potential to develop. The smallest social institutions is a family and the largest social institutions is a nation. This study focuses on three social institutions which are frequently found in Malay societies, namely, family, local community and nation. Therefore, this study discusses the relationship between the elements of the Malay world and the dynamics of social institutions in the novel Luka Nering. This study scrutinizes theory of Malay Methodology by Hashim Awang (1989) as a framework. The Malay Methodology consists of two features, namely, Natural Methodology and Religious Methodology. Natural Methodology consists of Utilitarian Approach, Moral Approach and Interpretative Approach. Then, Religious Methodology consists of Preaching Approach, Societal Approach and Artistic Approach. The study found that the social institutions of Malay in novel Luka Nering can be categorized into two differents levels, namely, the family and the local community.
