Green production and characterization of cadmium nanoparticle by phanerochaete chrysosporium secretion
Abstract
Nanotechnology is a manipulation of materials at the atomic level by a combination of engineering, chemical and biological approaches. As stated in the title, the green production refers to the technique used in synthesizing product using the biological method. Biological approach is more advantageous as the methods used are eco-friendly, safe to the environment and inexpensive. Thus, the green production of Cadmium nanoparticles (CdNPs) was performed using filamentous fungal secretion which is Phanerochaete chrysosporium. Fungi are chosen instead of bacteria and yeast as they can generate more extracellular secretions which are needed in the reduction of Cadmium Nitrate (CdNO3). The selection of fungal is done by reviewing previous studies which result in limited studies have been made on the production of CdNPs itself and the use of P. chrysosporium in
nanoparticles formation. For the characterization of the nanoparticles, biological tools were used to characterize the CdNPs. There are many techniques of characterization including, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Field-Emission Transmission Electron Microscopy (FETEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-Ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Zeta potential and Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA). The research result obtained in this project is done by synthesizing the CdNPs by using P. Chrysosporium secretion and obtain the characterization of the product. It is also
proved that CdNPs inhibits antimicrobial activity
