Design and analysis of a cross flow heat exchanger
Abstract
This project is about design and analysis a cross flow heat exchanger. In this project, an
experiment about Diesel Engine Cycle and a Cross Flow Heat Exchanger system have been
done in laboratory internal combustion engine at Kg. Wai. The objective of this experiment
is to obtain the correlation between engine speeds (rpm) vs. radiator in temperature and vs.
radiator out temperature. From the experiment data, analysis of the heat exchanger has been
done using the energy equation, logarithmic mean temperature difference method (LMTD)
and overall heat transfer coefficient (U). The objectives of the analysis are to find the
diameter pipe, length of the pipe and the area of heat exchanger. Then, continue the analysis
with the different number of tubes bank with different value of tube diameter to find the
best dimension of the heat exchanger that could be substitute in the diesel engine system.
From the analysis result, the most suitable diameter and length of the tubes have been
chosen to be designed which could be substitute the existing radiator in the Diesel Cycle
system using Solid-Work software.
