In this project, a dual band planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) is designed. The operational frequencies are 900 MHz (lower band) and 1800 MHz (high band). The PIFA was also measured using realistic casing to represent the real antenna in a mobile phone. The impedance of the simulation model has been verified with a prototype. It is shown that the proposed design can be used for applications in mobile terminal. The performance of the proposed antenna has been evaluated in the presence of hand. The Computer Aided Design (CAD) tool that has been used for this project is Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Microwave Studio Suite. The measurement result fulfills the requirements for an efficient antenna by ensuring that the proposed antenna has S11 (reflection coefficient) of less than -6dB. The performances analyzed in terms of the reflection coefficient (S11 parameter), input impedance matching and radiation pattern.VEE Pro has been used as the graphical language environment for recording the impedance characteristics of the mobile terminal. The software has been used to analyze the measurement results in order to predict the frequency detuning due to the presence of human, both at low and high frequencies. Therefore, general understanding on this issue will help to improve the design of the antenna for future mobile terminal.en_US
