Performance analysis of workload effects over mobile ad hoc networks
Abstract
Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANETs) is one of the most important types of wireless networks. Different parameters affect the performance of the MANETs and the most important parameters are the packet size and packet rate. These parameters need to be considered when using wireless networks in any application. Various values of these
parameters give a various network performance. Transmit large packet sizes over wireless networks can reduce the size of header overhead, but may have inversely impact on the number of lost packets due to corruptions or due to packets collisions which leads to degrade in network performance. While, Packet rate is a parameter that can affects the effectiveness of the network. So the values of these two parameters should be selected carefully. This dissertation presents an investigation and analysis of using different packet
sizes and different packet rates on the performance of a MANETs. The investigation and analysis were performed under varying network environments and for several different evaluation metrics. As a conclusion, the small packet size results in better network performance compared to the larger packet size and the slow packet rate provided better network performance compare to faster packet rate in Mobile Ad Hoc Network.
