Design of tangential entry swirl burner
Abstract
The research is about investigation on radial curve vane air swirler to determine
the effect on combustion in the combustion chamber that uses butane gas fuel. Air swirlers with vane angle of 20º and 60º is use to make comparisons of flame stabilization and temperature in term of combustion performance in the combustion chamber. Combustion chamber that with inlet diameter of 132 mm is installed in vertical position at the floor
surface that been supported with a four leg deck. Beside that, flange plat with inlet diameter
30mm and outlet diameter 200 mm is installed at the exit of air swirler. Gas fuel is supplied
by gas torch that installed vertically at the hole of the air swirler exit. To create air pressure
due to swirling purpose, a blower is attaching at the bottom of the combustion chamber.
Blower turbine is spin at 16000 rpm and can produce 2.8 3 m /min. From the result obtained,
air swirler with 60° vane angle is produce the highest temperature the flame is remain
constant compare with air swirler with air swirler with 20º vane angle. In the other hand,
bigger sizes of vane angle have created a shortest flame length and widen flame and a
smaller vane angle had created a longest flame length. The usage of swirl number in this
research is to shows the strength of the air swirler. The bigger value of swirl number shows
the higher swirl flow strength that can be produced. The vane angle is influence the swirl
number. One way to increase the swirl number is by increasing the swirler vane angle.
