Jig design for reduction of assembly cycle time and defect for front panel assembly
Abstract
Problems that often occur when the assembly process is high assembly time and
defect are serious problem that occurs in every production industry. To complete the
assembly process of front panel at Wong Engineering the same problem happen which
is the cycle time taking too long and defect frequently happens during assembly the
front panel. The problem happens because the process of assembly without a suitable
tool to guide the worker. Beside that, the existing assembly process does not use the
right process instruction. Therefore, the objective of this study is to design a tool to
reduce defects and cycle time. By referring the current problem, analysis of motion
study in the workplace can help to improve the efficiency of producing the product. The
analysis and motion study during assembly front panel is analysed by taking the cycle
time during task by task. Based on the result analysis, it shows that the motion study
during assembly the front panel needs the improvement by design the suitable jig to
guide the worker during using the hand press machine. Beside that, the modification of
existing assembly process also needs to be improved by using a standard working
process. The design and analysis of jig is using the CATIA software. By doing analysis
and evaluate the effectiveness of the jig to the front panel assembly, it shows the
decreases on cycle time and defect of the product. Therefore, by applying the jig on
assembly process it is very helpful in increasing the productivity of assembly process.
