dc.description.abstract | In recent years, both researcher and industry are focussing their attention toward the
development of sustainable composites, reinforced with natural fibres. In particular, among the
natural fibres (i.e. animal, vegetable or mineral) that can be used as reinforcement, the basalt
ones represent the most interesting for their properties. The aim of this experiment is to
investigate and justify of the mechanical properties, transmission load, strength of component
and quality of basalt fibre reinforced composite on cylindrical structure part by using filament
winding method. In the introduction, mechanical properties (axial compression and transverse
compression) and the influence of winding angle to the behaviour of basalt fibre have been
reviewed. This paper investigates the effect of the filament winding process at 30°, 45°, 60°,
75° and 90° to the basalt fibre when under axial compression and transverse compression. With
assisted by microscope to view the failure mode of filament winding process at 30°, 45°, 60°,
75° and 90° of the basalt fibre reinforced composite under the axial compression testing.
Experimental findings demonstrate that for axial compression, it shows at winding 60° with
load at 27965 N because it is very good at absorb and distributed the energy. From the result
for transverse compression shows that at winding 45° gives the highest load at 8000 N other
than winding angles because of the fibre orientation along the longitudinal axis are almost
opposite to the load given. | en_US |
