Thermal comfort study in BPU 7 lecture room
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to perform simulation of airflow in lecture room using
Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) technique in order to obtain a condition what is in
accordance to the thermal comfort requirement. This study involved the the solving the
conservation of mass, momentum and energy are used to as a species transport. A lecture
room in the School of Manufacturing Engineering was chosen as case study. The parameter
reached are air velocity, air temperature and humidity. These parameter were compared
with the ASHRAE 55-2004, ASHRAE 62, Malaysian Standard MS 1525 requirement. The
simulation were performed by using FLUENT software with and without occupants. The
result of the simulation study indicates the airflow pattern in the BPU 7 which
approximately perfect mixing which the temperature are within the comfort zone of the
ASHRAE Standards 55-2004.
