The installation of lightning protection systems has the positive impact upon the safety of human lives and properties such as buildings and habitant structures. In South East Asia, experts believe lightning incidents and casualties are going up."It is a growing problem in the region, lightning incidents are indeed going up and so are the deaths and injuries but the problem is many countries in the region including Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand don't even have proper experts and so the issue is left unaddressed.” Myanmar is also one of developing South East Asian countries and also has to be aware of the increasing case of lightning strikes and above factors are the really important to take in consideration. If compare with others regional countries, Myanmar would have less frequencies in lightning strike in summer but in other seasons have to prepare for future incidents. This paper will focus on studying the components of LPS and study to understand the knowledge of the conventional and non-conventional LPS in Myanmar. To protect a structure or building from the direct or indirect effects of lightning strike, the LPS system must take in every possible fact into consideration. The basic principles of lightning protection system design is to intercept the lightning discharge, to ensure the safety of conducting the lightning currents in Earth, and to reduce the effects of lightning currents such as (i) proper bonding and routing of down conductors (ii) surge suppression to protect power circuits and telephone/data circuits by performing equipotential bonding of LPS.en_US
