The rehabilitation of open dumping to sanitary landfill at Matang Taiping
Abstract
Open dumping Matang, Taiping was upgraded to a sanitary landfill more systematically with some of these sites have closed the phase I and II, while phase III is fully restored. This study aimed to know the process of upgrading the landfill open to closed and analyze the basic parameters of leachate as BOD ( Biochemical Oxygen Demand) , COD ( Chemical Oxygen Demand ) , Ammoniacal – Nitrogen, pH and Iron in new Biological treatment pond.In this study, sampling the water in each pond biological treatment of new and old was done. Results of laboratory studies found that the concentration of each parameter in the new biological treatment pond is higher than the old biological treatment ponds. Average reading parameters for old biological treatment pond of leachate COD 150.72 mg/L, BOD 70.64 mg/L, iron 0.21 mg/L, ammoniacal – nitrogen 55.48 mg/L and pH 7.26. The average reading for leachate in the new biological treatment pond COD 452.32 mg/L, BOD 104.93 mg/L, iron 3.67 mg/L, ammoniacal - nitrogen 351 mg/L and pH 8:37. Values were obtained from old biological treatment of leachate is suitable to be applied compared with new biological treatment because the size of new pond is small and not accommodate leachate from the drains around the waste disposal site.
