An investigation into failure road embankment constructed over soft clay
Abstract
There are numerous embankment often failure during construction of the highway project Malaysia where it is usually constructed on soft deposit soil. There are two methods was used to analysis the stability based on limit equilibrium and finite element method. Slope stability analysis is one of the ancient tasks in the geotechnical engineering. The stability of slope represent by the value of factor of safety where higher value indicate more stable. For this research, the soil parameter obtained from one of the case study located in Tokai, Kedah. One of the effective ground treatment prefabricated vertical drain (PVD) was chosen to be used to improve the foundation in order to meet the design requirement. Those parameter are inserted into modelling by software of PLAXIS to obtain the FOS and based on the different factor such as various geometry model and fill height. Furthermore, the critical failure zone of the embankment can be clearly found out from the analysis.
