The anodizing of sintered Mg/Ca alloys
Abstract
This project is focusing on the effect of anodizing on the sintered Mg/Ca alloys.
The Mg/Ca alloy was fabricated using powder metallurgy method. The Mg powder was
mixed with 1 wt.% Ca powder using rotating mill with ball powder ration of 10:1 for 1
hour with speed of 100 rpm. The mixed powder was compacted using pressure of 200 MPa
and then sintered using tube furnace in argon atmosphere at 550oC for 60 minutes.
The anodizing process was carried out using two different parameters which are
voltage (5V, 15V, 25V) and KOH concentration (0.1M, 0.5M, 1.0M) for 1 hour. Both
anodized and non-anodized samples were analyzed using several analysis such as mass
change per surface area, density test, mass percentage of compound formation, surface
analysis, hardness test, and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis. From this study, it is found
that different anodizing parameter affected the hardness of the samples.
